John Denver became a star with the folk-based songs he composed, the majority of which are located in Colorado. Henry John Deutschendorf Jr. was raised in Roswell New Mexico. He discovered love for Colorado. He eventually moved to Aspen. Denver's famous anthems about Colorado are a source of inspiration for many to make the move to Colorado. G. Brown, curator of Colorado Music Hall of Fame declared it was because John Denver is the only performer to embody Colorado. Denver was inducted into the Hall of Fame as its the first member in 2011. Denver has been the symbol of the state to people all over. Certainly in my travels you encounter someone on the other side of the world or someone who is from New Zealand and you say "I'm of Colorado and the first word that comes they say is"Oh John Denver! Brown stated. Take Me Home Country Roads - cowritten with Bill Danoff - was Denver's first Top 10 single as a solo artist following a short stint in small folk bands. Danoff initially wrote the song to Johnny Cash's tune with a focus on Johnny Cash, however Denver knew from the first time he heard the earlier versions that it would be a big success. The song was first recorded two weeks following it was performed in Washington D.C. performance.
